It's all Part of the Process

Classes were smaller today and lots of fun. As often happens the class I had planned was not the class I taught. There were a few brand new and somewhat new faces, which called for some modification. Talking points revolved around Process = a series of natural changes by which something passes from one condition to another. We used binds to explore using our clasped hands (or straps) as resistance to help open our bodies, and talked about the idea of a flower inside a bud pushing against the resistance of it's edges and eventually opening into a beautiful expression of itself, and how freeing that must feel, all that space created from the inside out. We did lots of shoulder opening with and without straps and many of the students had not experienced binds, so there was lots of WOW , that was fun & I didn't think I could do that. Good stuff! Freedom

This past week the theme revolved around Freedom in honor of Memorial Day. There is so much there to explore, I chose to go with the idea of using our yoga to find more freedom in the body. That freedom always cost something, there is an exchange of energy that happens. Our dedicated armed forces pay for our freedom with their time away from loved ones and often their very lives. We pay for freedom in our body by aligning correctly and moving in skillful ways. Good health and wellness in body doesn't just fall on us, it takes dedication to a practice of some sort, for me it is yoga for strength and flexibility with running/walking as supplement's. Anusara...and so it goes...

I am wondering why I am even writing this? Really it's just for me I guess, like a stage I must go through or a rite of passage, something that needs to be recorded, noticed, remembered... To summarize the scandal...as my sweet Mama would have said "John Friend founder of Anusara got a little too big for his yoga britches". This is not meant to trivialize the gravity of the allegations against John Friend or those who have been irreparably damaged by his actions, it is not for me to judge; however, Ahimsa or non-harming is one of the first teachings every yoga student learns...and harm he has, whether intentional or not.
